Department of Pharmacy Practice

The department of pharmacy practice started functioning as a separate discipline under the support of the            RVS Hospital and Research foundation and Government District Head Quarters Hospital, Chittoor facilitating easy access for the health care professionals. The department conducts classes for undergraduates (B.Pharm) and postgraduates (M.Pharm, Pharmacy Practice branch) and Pharm.D. students.

The department is involved in ward round participation, drug and poison information services, adverse drug reaction monitoring and reporting, patient counseling, conducting continuing education programmes for the hospital and community pharmacists. The Department provides Drug Information Service through their well established Drug Information Centre at RVS Hospital and Research Foundation as well as in college campus itself. The thrust area of research includes Pharmacovigilance, Drug utilization evaluation, Community based studies, Population pharmacokinetics modeling.

The Department has received funds & grants to carry out major research projects from Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, and also produced significant output of research publications in peer reviewed journals.

Department of Pharmacognosy

The research areas in Pharmacognosy are continually growing. Today it includes various aspects of cell and molecular biology in relation to natural products, ethnobotany and phytotherapy, in addition to the more traditional analytical method development and phytochemistry. Our department contributes for both research and teaching to understand novel approaches in this field such as combinatorial biosynthesis, genomics and proteomics. The major research area of interest is Pharmacognostical, phytochemical and various pharmacological activities of some indigenous medicinal and herbal plants.
